Memory size is 10.24 seconds at a data rate of 409.6 kHz.
An internal battery maintains memory data for several months. This battery is trickle charged from the main detector batteries, four AA cells.
A three-digit LED display is used to indicate heterodyne tune frequency, memory address pointer, bat present, record cycle, and playback cycle
Specification
Memory: With a memory size of 10.24 seconds efficient memory use is desirable. Selecting, for example, a record only mode of 40 milli seconds, 256 bat calls can be recorded. These recordings are “back to back”. It is possible to have manual or automatic recording.
Memory Location Pointer: This is a switch for slow/fast forward or reverse to set the memory pointer.
Selectable Time Expansion Division/Playback: Since recorded calls are held in memory, they can be played back at any time, at any selected speed of ¸10, ¸32, ¸64. Divide by 64 is useful for analysing very high frequency bat calls. It is also used to playback heterodyne recordings.
External Tape Recorder: There is a stereo jack socket for supplying the detector output signal to an external tape recorder (100mv rms into 600 W) on one channel.
Power Supply: Four AA batteries changed using a removable battery cover.
Heterodyne: Can record heterodyne signals. Useful for analysing call repetition rates, and investigating constant frequency (CF) bat calls. The FM chirps at the start and end of the CF call can be measured. Precise tuning frequency is indicated on the three digit display.
Battery Backup: The digital memory has an internal battery which can “hold up” memory contents. Recorded signals can be maintained in memory for several months and played back when required.
Back to Back Recordings: With the automatic record facility, recordings are “back to back”. This means memory is not wasted recording noise signals. Bat call recordings are in adjacent time slots or “back to back” with minimum noise between calls, making for efficient use of precious memory. This makes call analysis much faster than using an external tape recorder. Social calls can also be recorded by selecting larger time slots. This makes analyses much faster than when using an external tape recorder. Some calls can also be recorded selecting large time slot.
